Users review: Director making feature-film debuts have no choice in Hollywoods best (and busiest) star - as is akiva Goldsman, that is. With its epic romance jerk Winters Tale, Oscar-winning screenwriter he corralled the likes of Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Colin Farrell and Eva Marie Saint, an accomplished cast that would make the most seasoned director jealousy. The problem is that Winters Tale never really comes together as Goldsman obviously you want to: writing is smart and occasionally very good, but the movie flounders when it should soar, losing instead of gathering pace and tension as it goes on.The story - according to Mark Helprins clumsy 1983 novel - this petty thief Peter Lake (Farrell) from the early 1900s until the present day.
