Users review: I was given free advanced screening tickets to see this film, and being the film buff that I am, I took them and went and saw it. I had seen a trailer before hand and knew what to expect from the film, but I gotta be honest, my expectations were low and the only reason I watched it is cause they were free tickets.Now, after seeing it, I can tell you the film was an awesome surprise. The cast was great, the action fun, and the plot unique. I didnt see any of the twists coming and I found the film to be very entertaining. It doesnt get too convoluted at any point and is a great chase/illusion film. Its like a funner version of The Prestige, not that the two belong in the same class, just an easy way to quickly summarize what the movie is trying to accomplish (although Michael Caine is in both films!)Go see it, as will I, again. A fun summer movie that is likely to surprise more than a few people with its plot and twists!

Users review: I hate the way people pull apart movies trying to determine an underlying message that is being given to us. Why cant you just accept a movie for what it is, why do you have to pick it apart. Not every person who rates this as great is religious but a lot of you are branding this movie as a bible beating religious crowds movie when that is not so. I loved this movie because i think it speaks to each and every one of us, to me it gives me hope that there is something wonderful out there besides the chaos of the world we live in, where all people do is fight, and cheat and lie and hate, where we steal from one another, kill one another etc. If this brings hope, if some people believe that this is real then let them do so. If you choose not to like it or believe then dont. As a species we should all be living our lives better than what we do, we take everything for granted and we have become greedy and self absorbed, everything is about what you can get for yourself. And as for the person who said every experience like what the kid had has always been linked to flat lining, then your wrong, thats not always the case.

Users review: I know, I know. This will incontrovertibly attract a lot of hate from die-hard Dark Knight fans, but guess what? Im one of those who thinks Nolan is the epitome of how to make a perfect superhero spectacle. Or at least, I was until tonight. This film will blow your mind. Quite literally, it is jam-packed with edge-of-your-seat action thrills and pure comedic gold. Dont be expecting a moody companion piece like that of Nolans trilogy, or Man of Steel. It keeps more in touch with Avengers, although its a lot funnier and really builds upon the upcoming Infinity Gauntlet arc. The actors are incredible, matching the character developments, the dialogue and action sequences are spectacular and the visual effects should surely earn a nod come Oscar time, as Id personally put them on par with those seen in the recent Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The run length compliments the well-scripted pacing of the movie itself, whilst plenty of interesting secondary characters litter Guardians with an ensemble cast that has exceeded anything yet seen in the Marvel/DC movie worlds. I dont pertain to the DC versus Marvel argument, but this masterpiece alone has certainly put Marvel on the front foot in terms of cinema outings, far surpassing the very enjoyable Man of Steel and, I believe, edging out Nolans trilogy and then some. I thoroughly recommend this for any with a borderline sci-fi/superhero love, and advise you to remain for the tantalising post-credits scene, although many of the non-comic fans might not get the references. Easily a perfect ten out of ten for me.

Users review: Horror movies are rarely called great.When was the last critically acclaimed horror movie released? Youd be hard-pressed to find anything since The Ring in 2002.I havent seen The Conjuring, Mama or Oculus but people say theyve got potential. I thought Drag Me to Hell was pretty good from 2009.But the last great one I caught in theaters was Devil from 2010.Which is also directed by John Dowdle. He wrote Quarantine (2008), as well – another solid semi- recent horror.As Above/So Below is the best horror movie Ive seen in a long time.First of all, its shot on-location in Paris, which is a delight for any fan of that city. Favorite sights like Notre Dame and Sacre-Coeur are featured throughout.The filmmakers use almost every shooting style. AA/SB is a mockumentary about Scarlett (played by Perdita Weeks) a young archaeologist searching for the philosophers stone. Therefore much of the footage is shot in first-person via headlamp GoPro cams.Although Im sick of found footage it works better here. For obvious reasons, the budget cant be massive, so this filmmaking style is particularly suited to horror.The story is also good, co-written by the director and his brother, Drew.Theres more nuance than usual. The main characters use deductive reasoning and historical analysis in order to solve riddles and navigate the labyrinthine catacombs.Theres a lot of rebirth imagery, but I wonder just how far the metaphor goes. Are the ribbed tunnels supposed to be reminiscent of a vaginal lining?Dichotomies drawn between light and dark, and up and down, are intriguing and thought provoking.The cast of unknowns delivers strong performances. Its tough to get through a whole scary movie without poor acting or cheesy moments.Apparently Im in the minority because AA/SB is getting 13% amongst top critics and 57% amongst the users on Rotten Tomatoes.But I would encourage an open mind, because its a cut above the rest.If youre looking for a decent flick this weekend, especially if you dig horror, you can do a lot worse than As Above/So Below.
